Classroom Lead/Instructor

Job Type: Part-time

We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate individual to join our team as an instructor for the physics and basketball program. In this role, you will be responsible for teaching students in grades 6-8 the principles of physics through the use of sports and physical activities.

  • Responsibilities:

    • Deliver lesson plans that integrate physics concepts with sports and physical activities

    • Teach students about the laws of motion, force, energy, and other key physics principles

    • Sports and physical activities as a means to demonstrate the principles of physics

    • Work with students to carry out experiments that measure physical characteristics such as height, weight, velocity, and acceleration

    • Assess student learning and provide constructive feedback on their understanding of the material

    • Develop and maintain relationships with schools and non-profit organizations to secure teaching opportunities

    • Collaborate with other instructors and staff to continuously improve the program

    Requirements:

    • College coursework in physics, science education, or a STEM field related field (Bachelors degree preferred)

    • Demonstration of prior teaching experience

    • Strong interest and understanding of the principles of physics and how they can be applied to sports and physical activities

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

    • Ability to work well with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities

    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

    • Ability to travel to various locations to teach the program

    • Available between 2-5pm a few days a week

    • Must pass background check and provide TB test clearance

Basketball/PE Instructor

Job Type: Part-time

Location: John Muir Middle School - San Leandro

About the Role: We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Basketball/PE Instructor. The ideal candidate will be responsible for teaching physical education and basketball concepts to students in grades K-12.

  • Responsibilities:

    • Implement engaging lesson plans that incorporate physical activity, basketball skills, and principles of physics

    • Lead students in on-court activities, drills, and experiments to demonstrate physical concepts such as force, velocity, and acceleration

    • Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide a comprehensive learning experience for students

    • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students

    • Evaluate student performance and provide feedback to help them improve

    • Ensure that all equipment is maintained and stored properly

    • Attend training and professional development opportunities to continuously improve your skills

    Requirements:

    • Ability to understand and teach math concepts which include statistics and algebra (we provide training)

    • Previous experience teaching physical education, coaching basketball, or playing basketball at hs/college level

    • Strong interest understanding of the principles of physics and their application to physical activities

    • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with students, teachers, and other staff

    • Passion for helping students develop their physical abilities and an understanding of science

    • Ability to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds and abilities

    • First Aid and CPR certification must be completed within first 30 days of employment

    • Available between 2-4pm a few days a week.

    • Must pass background check and provide TB test clearance
